From Northampton center: At the intersection of Route 5 (Pleasant St./King St.)

- There is a free 10-minute parking space on the east side of the building for book return only. There is also a drive-up book drop on the east side of the building.
- Additional Info
- After 5:00 PM on weekdays, and all day on weekends, the Smith College Parking Garage on West Street is available free.
- There are metered spaces on West Street and Green Street.
- Parking is enforced by the City of Northampton.

Any resident of a Massachusetts community which receives State Aid to Libraries Grants, or full-time student in Massachusetts, is entitled to a free library card. You can also use a current library card from a qualifying public library in CWMARS (Central/Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing) to borrow Forbes materials.
If you need a card, please ask for an application at the main desk. A photo ID and proof of address are required.
- Most items circulate for 3 weeks, with the following exceptions:
- New books (from the "New" sections in the Reading Room and Arts & Music) and e-book readers circulate for 2 weeks.
- DVDs, videos, games, and magazines circulate for 1 week.
- Museum passes circulate for 2 days.
- All items except museum passes may be renewed once for the same period if no one is waiting for them.
- Borrowing Limits
- The following material types are limited. Each patron may borrow up to:
- 7 Adult and 3 Children's DVDs
- 5 Books on CD
- 20 Books on tape
- 3 Playaways
- 5 Music CD Boxed sets (within a total of up to 20 Music CD titles)
- 5 Current Magazines
- 20 VHS videos (or 13 if you are taking 7 DVDs, for a total of 20 movies overall)
- 1 Game
- 1 E-book Reader
- 1 Musical Instrument
- 1 Museum Pass
- for overdue materials
- Most overdue materials are charged a fine of 10¢ per day with a maximum fine of $3.00 per item.
- Overdue DVDs, videos, e-book readers and musical instruments are charged a fine of $1.00 per day with a maximum fine of $5.00 per item.
- Overdue museum passes are charged a fine of $5 per day with no maximum.
- Blocked cards
- A patron is prevented from borrowing when there is more than $10.00 owed in fines or in overdue, lost or damaged materials.
