The Library offers free internet access at public workstations in the Reference, Arts & Music, and Children's Departments (Children's workstations for use by children and young adults only).
Wireless
The Forbes Library is pleased to announce that free high-speed wireless Internet access is now available in the Library in the Reference Room on the first floor, and in the Arts & Music Department on the second floor. The service is available to anyone with a laptop or other portable web-enabled device equipped with a wireless network interface card (NIC). Some laptops are available at the Circ Desk for a 2-hour loan to library users with cards.
The wireless option provides more Internet access within the Library without increasing costs for hardware, software and staff maintenance. Users of the wireless service have the advantage of using their own equipment and software with preferred settings and security. You can come in and jump online without waiting, time limits, or needing a library card.
There are some limitations to this service. The Library will not be offering printing services or configuration assistance. The Library cannot accept the liability of handling your equipment and will not be responsible for any loss of data or damage to personal equipment. A WiFi network is less secure than a wired network and the signal strength varies within the Library. Please ask for a copy of our Wireless Internet Policy which gives more specific technical information as well as information about safety concerns of accessing a WiFi network.
