Title: A Great and Terrible Beauty

Author: Libba Bray

Format: Book

Comments: This novel, by one of my favorite young adult authors, tells the story of Gemma Doyle who is sent to a finishing school after her mother dies a mysteries death in India. Gemma's outside the mold attitude adds humor to a very dark book, filled with old magic and new as Gemma forms bonds with her fellow classmates.

Title: Weetzie Bat

Author: Francesca Lia Block

Format: Book

Comments: When reading Weetzie Bat, one gets transported to another time and place, of tomahawks and plastic palm trees and young teenage dreams. Weetzie Bat lives her teenage years in the starlit city of L.A. She and Dirk, her best friend, go duck hunting on the beach and shopping in the city. They hang out at Dirks house where he and his grandmother Fifi live. But one day Weetzie finds a magic lamps and a chain of events follow that neither one of them had expected.

Title: Just Listen

Author: Sarah Dessen

Format: Book

Comments: The title of Sarah Dessen's book reflects not only the underlying theme of music but also of a traumatic exspirience that occured to the books main character, Annabel Greene. Frisndships are lost and many others are made in this compelling teenage novel by one of my favorite authers.
